Thursday, 08-29-2013 – 16:03  PMR Membership Page Tweaks

Brought Line about By-Laws towards the top – know what you are getting into before paying – ;-).

The PayPal graphic in center of page was ‘disconnected’ from the ‘submit button lines of code’ so a transparent outlined button without graphic was floating on left of page.  I removed the submit button line of code.  I then linked  the PayPal ‘buynow’ graphic to the sbmug PayPal page.

Original ‘Roster Page’ will remain in inventory as Draft and can be returned to ‘active duty’ should it please the ‘powers-that-be’.

Moved the ‘for admins only’ Post-Page to the Trash as per exchange with Pia that there was no difference between it and SiteAdminBlog.  The copy of the page is reproduced below:
I want to set up an area where we can do exactly what Peter proposed. We can create new posts but only Admins can read them. I know how to in Drupal but am learning WP … 🙂 Pia

Wednesday, 08-28-2013 – 19:30  PMR  SiteAdmin Category Posts/Pages Can Now Be ‘Published’

We [Pia, DJ & I] were struggling with keep SiteAdmin Pages and Post-pages from loading in the homepage auto-feed.  Becuase of tht there was a SOP of keeping SiteAdmin Posts/Pages in DRAFT status.  The issue has been resolved and SiteAdmin Pages/Posts are not loading into homepage – so those are now being published.  You will need to be logged in as administrator to see the page/post content – AND for the time being if you want to ADD a notation you will have to use the Edit Page/Post more.

[hr color=”dark-gray” width=”100″ border_width=”2″ ]
Wednesday, 08-28-2013 – 18:25  PMR  Implementing use of  ‘more’ tag to reduce ‘clutter’ on ‘homepage

In an effort to render the ‘homepage’ slightly less cluttered and send traffic to full POST-pages – I am using the ‘more’ tag line [there is a button to do this in the Edit Post [Page] mode – Text editor is is the button labelled ‘more’ and in the Visual Editor it is in the top row of the ‘washboard’ 3th from the right – do not use the ‘page-brake one] .

I’ve placed the ‘more’ tag in ‘strategic?’ places and in some instances right above the ‘original meeting post’ in the past meetings post – this way we do not have to ‘edit out’ original language now that it won’t be loading into the FEED on the homepage  With the one for the 15th of May I inserted it right after panorama photo and a new line enticing others to look at more photos.  In the Bob W Post… blah, blah, nlad.

Anyone else think the feed page flows [scrolls] better?

INADVERTENTLY [my bad],   🙁   by doing the above I may have messed with Dottie’s ‘experimentation’ of inserting a graphic file [StarScapeDiv2.jpg] as a separator between the individual items being fed to he ‘homepage’… they were there before but when I reload the site now  in a second browser they appear to have disappeared.  Hmmmm.  Click HERE to see what DJ was working on…

Wednesday, 08-28-2013 – 17:38

While working with Pia and Dottie about updates to SiteAdminBlog that appeared to have been published [as opposed to Saved as Draft]  – noticed as mentioned below – all Post-pages were loading into the homepage – auto-feed page.  Even the category SiteAdmin.  Discovered a setting that not limits them to display ton home page [auto-feed] AND also prevents general users from seeing the content on those SiteAdmin Post-pages when using the scrolling buttons along the bottom of individual POST-pages.  Slick.

Responz Child > Settings > Default Layouts > Query Categories >  read the ‘formula’ and inserted this into the field:  1,2,-3
Use minus sign (-) to exclude categories. Example: “1,4,-7″ = only include Category 1, 4, and exclude Category 7.”

NOW we need to find a way to allow commenting to the SiteAdmin category by Admin…  currently global setting ‘Disable comments All Posts’ Until we figure that out we gotta go to Post [or Page] EDIT MODE – insert comments at top of the page [HELPS TO ADD DATE & TIME AND INITIALS].  What is great now is that you CAN press the P{UBLISH BUTTON from now on!!!!

I DIGRESS – I am still of the ming that this ‘team management’ might be easier with a separate siteadminblog.sbaug.org site!!!  But heck definitely willig to kep hunting for right combination of add-ons, plugins, widgets!

Also, please add the SEPARATOR LINE CODE [look below – line above your date time initial stamp]

Wednesday, 08-28-2013 – Time Uncertain  PO

Pia installed a new WP Plugin… see SiteAdmin Post page and note below – I now see additional selections at the bottom of Edit mode for Posts and for Pages in the Content Permissions.

that will allow us to create levels of users, and allow them access as per their level. This is something we want to do for our paid members also. So far the best one I have found is  http://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/s2member

Important to understand

After you add input into the SiteAdminBlog or SiteAdminTechNotes – DO NOT CLICK Publish – rather click ‘Save Draft’.  When you click Publish – it automatically gets added to the ‘homepage’ feed and everyone can see it.

Wednesday, 08-28-2013 – 08:54  PMR

Experimented with a POST-page for SiteAdminBlog exchange that allows comments and would update in it’s own RSS feed – to see notes  select POSTS and then Edit SiteAdminBlog at top.  Don’t think this is doable.

Doing a web search…
Perhaps one of the items here Best Project Management And Collaboration Tools For WordPress Development

Cursory review suggests there are two PLUGINS on the above:
[hr color=”dark-gray” width=”100″ border_width=”2″ ]
WP Project Manager and BP GTM System

I wonder if it is doable to create [host] a separate  ‘siteadmin.sbaug.org’  blog?    At least we could use it as a means to turn on commenting and make it ‘live’ for administrators/board to subscribe to and get live feeds?

Tuesday, 08-27-2013 – 13:54 PMR Adjust Size Sub Menus & Page-Title Headings [again]

Responz Child>Styling>Main Navigation>Dropdown Link>Font Size to 65%.  Was 70%.  Adjusted so that all items ended up fitting on single line which seems to have eliminate an anoying text wrap of longer menu items – at least on computer based web browser. Still appears to be a reasonably legible size.

Responz Child>Styling>Custom CSS
.page-title {
font-size: 190%;
}

It was 190% – adjusted down to 160%

Suggest we remove the above and just use the Responz Child>Styling>Page Title>Font Size
OR we could add this to Responz Child>Styling>Custom CSS
.post-title {
font-size: 160%;
}
Nah… use the GUI

Monday, 08-26-2013 – 14:16  PMR  Menu Additions/Adjustments

This was the last of a series of incremental additions/adjustments and reordering the Menus.
Under WP-Admin side bar [on left] used Appearance>Menus.
One of the main changes was the addition of a ‘Home’ menu item… reason being that once you get into the site – on a page or post-page – there wasn’t a label/button to get you back to the ”home page’ which I think is, technically, the ‘feed’ page.
Another reason I was messing with the menus [again] was that the menus were not as I thought I left them  on Sunday.  I attributed that, in part, to a changes I made not being saved or the semi-funky behavior the GUI for Menu seems to have [using Chrome browser].
Click HERE to view a PDF showing the lastest menu structure as of this post .

Monday, 08-26-2013 – 09:50  PMR  Adjust Size of Headings and Menus and Added Color When Hovering over URL
Comments were made about the size of headings on feedpage and elsewhere were too big.  Followed by a personal comment same for submenu items. Adjusted:

WP-Admin side bar
Responz Child>Styling>Post Title>Font Size to 115% [Frankly I forget what it was before – if not left as ‘default [blank]
Responz Child>Styling>Page Title>Font Size to 115% [Frankly I forget what it was before – if not left as ‘default [blank]
Changes to PAGE heading in the above GUI does not affect appearance.

I think CSS code below prevents the above from making a difference.

WP-Admin side bar
Responz Child>Styling>Custom CSS

Experimented with changing font-size value in code below.  It was 250% – ended up sticking with 190%
.page-title {
font-size: 190%;
}
Footnote – the only effects Headings on a PAGE – not headings on Posts-page.  See below.  If were to add a separate line of code for POSTS I guess it would.

Menus
Responz Child>Styling>Main Navigation>Main Navigation Link >Font Size to 80%.  I think the value before was ‘1.1 em’  [Main Menu items]
Responz Child>Styling>Main Navigation>Dropdown Link>Font Size to 70%.  I think the value before was ‘default’ [blank]  [Dropdown Menu items]

Added color to HOVER over URL…
Responz Child>Styling>Body Font> Body Hover>Color [ Arrbitrarily select a ‘blue’ in pallette and it display ‘3317eb’.
I tried doing same to Body link but that turned the headings to posts on the feed page to the color.  Looked funky.

Completed 99.9% of migration of SBMUG site graphics and all html pages.

Updated site menus
Updated misc existing pages and posts.
Deleted Robert Wilmott page [had nothing of significance]
Updated Robert Wilmott Post with text and graphics

I have implemented changes suggested via email with regard to Posts about general meetings that have passed:   Revise [shorten] the ‘Title’, Insert ‘Meeting Summary’ at top [presently added at bottom]  followed by any photos or other descriptive info/materials; Delete the Map graphic and related text link.  I cannot come up with a ‘logical’ reason to maintain the map/link on posts about past meetings; and,  remove the copy of the original post [to one post] & replaced with the phrase… ORIGINAL MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT ARCHIVED. The above changes make the display of the ‘homepage’ more streamline and user-friendly.

Revised title of Robert Wilmott Post-page to Robert Wilmott: 1948-2013.  Existing copy on this Post-page was simply the words Robert Wilmott Obit linked to an ‘in memorium’ article about Robert’s passing published in SB Independent.
Embellished the copy some and added two photographs with captions.

Continued migration of SBMUG site graphics and all html pages throughout the day.

Discovered link btwn graphic ‘btn_buynowCC_LG-2013’ to PayPal button on the side bar/pane was broken.  I can only guess why this appeared just today – perhaps as a result of a ‘duplicate’ file with the same name being uploaded to media library and the side pane was ‘accessed today’ or a less-likely tho possible scenario is the association was lost when the SBMUG.org site was relocated today.  Whatever, I’ll take the blame – my bad.  Reported via OFF-LIST email to Ian and Dorothy.

Created and Uploaded to Media Library a three (3) variations of SBAUG’s Mission-Apple as a favicon graphic file [.png [2 – one transparent] & .ico] ofor display purposes in URL/addres line in browsers.

Tested validity of a mailto link [board@lists.sbmug.org] on the sbaug.org website.  Just as I thought, emails bounced back…  reported and asked what is an alternate email address that can be used that will be delivered when clicking on an active link on the SBAUG website where visitors are invited to ‘write to us’ or ‘contact us’.  IMHO there should be an email address that gets thru no matter what.  Maybe info@sbaug.org or support@sbaug.org?  Related question – is there a webmaster@sbaug.org address that is ‘accessible’ usable?  Jim T and Ian L. are looking into it.
