19 March 2014 Main Meeting

Meeting Summary…

Our March meeting featured a presentation by Ed Adams on how he post-processes his digital images using an assortment of applications [programs] including  Aperture, iPhoto, Lightroom, and plugins.

Projecting on Petrini’s big screen from his MacBook Pro, Ed showed how helpful plugins can be when finalizing images in Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture, or Photoshop Elements. Add-on (plugin) programs save time and do a great job, plus, offering some unique image adjustment tools. Plugins like Intensify Pro and Focus 2 Pro [Apple only] by MacPhun, onOne Suite, Nik [Google’s] photo editing Suite can help modify photos with specific tools. Ed explained the difference between raw and jpeg image-capture formats. He recommended rating/scoring your photos and getting rid of poor ones. He shared tips for sending photos to others, and explained Email attachment limitations. He reported that Lightroom keeps profiles for all his different Canon lenses and the application can correct aberrations due to lens design and limitiations.

Slightly off topic, Ed discussed how you can use histograms both on your camera as you shoot as well as in post processing to correct issues with blown out skys and totally black shadows. Most post processing applications including iPhoto have histograms and almost all newer cameras show histograms including your iPhones. Ed listed several back-up devices that he uses, plus, Cloud/online storage service, Backblaze, that can keep your personal photo collection files.
